Requirements
A minimum of 11.25 courses. At least four of these must be 300-level MAT courses or above.*
The following core courses:
One of the following sequences:
1 or 2 additional MAT elective(s) at the 200 or 300 level (2 electives required if MAT 327-MAT 328 or MAT 337-MAT 338 are taken to fulfill the sequence requirement).
Notes
*STA 347 -STA 348 may be substituted for a required 300-level MAT course.
**To be taken by the end of the sophomore year
***Students majoring in Mathematics and pursuing a Secondary Education Certification take EDU 483 as their capstone experience to replace MAT 485 . Additionally, Mathematics majors pursuing a Secondary Education Certification must take MAT 231 . This can count as the “Additional MAT elective.”
Senior Capstone Project:
The capstone experience (MAT 502 & MAT 485 ) for a Major in Mathematics emphasizes experiential learning and is a writing intensive course. These courses comprise an individual creative project completed in a cooperative learning environment. (Not required for Math majors who are receiving certification for secondary education. EDU 483 serves as the capstone and replaces MAT 485 ). Students double majoring in Mathematics and Applied Statistics or Data Science may petition the Department of Mathematics and Statistics to substitute STA 502 and STA 485 for the capstone requirement in Mathematics if the capstone project contains sufficient mathematical content.
