ENG 369 - Literature and Social Justice in Chicago (1)Take an urban adventure to explore Chicago’s rich history of social and literary activism from the nineteenth century to today. This course will illuminate the complex relationship between literature and social justice in Chicago through readings; visits to relevant organizations, archives, and museums; and conversations with writers, activists, and writer-activists. Social issues we’ll explore may include: race and class, labor conditions, immigration, segregation and gentrification, mass incarceration, literacy and education, gender and sexuality. This course also introduces students to professional opportunities related to writing, literary activism, and social justice. Prerequisites: FYW or ENG 201 , ENG 202 , ENG 215 , or ENG 225 This course is pre-approved for the Ingenuity in Action category, Civic Engagement.
