ECB 515 - Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program (1/4)Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) is a national IRS sponsored program that provides free preparation of federal and state tax returns for households with income less than $60,000. Students in this course will receive training from VITA (about 9 hours in three sessions), usually some time in December. The training prepares students for the IRS Tax Preparer Certification exam to prepare for the role of tax preparer. During the tax season (during late January to early April), students will volunteer at VITA under the supervision of a site coordinator to help complete and file tax returns for those who can’t afford professional tax preparation services. Students select volunteering time slots of approximately 3 hours per week for the ten-week tax season. Time slots are available during the day, in the evening and on Saturday. The total time commitment to receive credit is approximately 39 hours. This course may be repeated for credit.
