KIN 200 - Preventative Health Resources as Human Rights (SYS) (1)

This class will explore the extent to which preventive health resources are more readily available to economically and socially privileged populations. Students will critique the extent to which southeast Iowa (in particular, the Mount Vernon, Iowa City, and Cedar Rapids triangle) offers resources for safe physical activity, a wide repertoire of wellness and recreational pursuits, and other outlets for preventive health behavior. Students should expect to define preventive health and critique patterns of privilege which keep certain populations from having easy access to preventive health resources. This course will use a combination of field trips, community engagement projects, and in-class discussion. Only open to sophomores.
