ECB 265 - Topics: Human Resources Data Discovery (1)

HR Data Discovery is an applied course designed to introduce students to statistical techniques used to make Human Resource (HR) management decisions. While the emphasis is on human resource management, we may also include other business applications such as strategic management. The goal of this course is to foster a conceptual and practical understanding of statistical techniques applied to management. The class will take a quantitative statistical approach to answer questions such as: Which training program led to higher productivity? How do changes in compensation impact worker turnover?

In addition, this course emphasizes a practical set of skills so the student can carry out the analysis and make the correct decision. This course emphasizes developing a basic understanding of statistics commonly used in Human Resource Management and Organizational Behavior, knowing how to calculate various statistics (whether by calculator or using SPSS), and most importantly, how to interpret results. Topics covered in this course include Descriptive Statistics, Theory of Probability, Discrete and Continuous Probability Distributions, Sampling Distributions and Estimation, Hypothesis Testing, ANOVA, and Simple and Multiple Regression. Prerequisite: STA 201
