PHI 213 - Topics: Bioethics (1)This course will be an examination of the ethical issues involved in biomedicine and biomedical research. Fundamental moral questions of equality, justice, autonomy, and responsibility will be explored in issues such as healthcare practice, public health policies, life and death decisions, reproductive rights and responsibilities, genetic choices and manipulation, resource allocation, and research in the life sciences. How class, gender, race and ability factor into these controversial topics will also be highlighted. Case studies will be used to consider the issues from diverse ethical perspectives. This course would be beneficial for anyone interested in the healthcare profession, life sciences, and the critical moral concerns facing our society today. (Humanities)
