SOC 315 - Wealth, Power, and Inequality (1)

The course considers the importance of socio-economic class by exploring the meaning and measurement of social class, how social classes are formed, and how they change.  It investigates the relationship between various forms of inequality (i.e., social class, race-ethnicity, gender, sexuality) while emphasizing the importance of the  relationship between socio-economic class and political power. Students will observe the ways in which class and political inequalities operate in the United States and around the globe,  They will analyze how these inequalities express themselves in social movements, revolutions, and ideologies such as freedom or  fascism.  This class will contemplate the processes by which these inequalities are perpetuated, legitimated, and challenged. Prerequisite: SOC 101  or SOC 102 . Alternate years.
