Business and research questions are increasingly requiring the analysis of complex data; far more complex than traditional statistical techniques and statistical software can handle. To analyze such complex data properly takes both statistical and computer science knowledge. Statistical concepts are used to identify the statistical question being asked and apply appropriate methods to analyze the data. Computer science concepts include those needed to efficiently access the vast amount of complex data stored in a variety of platforms as well as effective use of Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) to perform the analysis. This major consists of foundational courses in both statistics and computer science, as well as electives from both areas and across the college in fields which grapple with complex data.
