Requirements

A minimum of eight course credits in French which include:

• FRE 301 - Composition and Conversation (1)
• FRE 303 - Cultures of France and Francophone World (1) OR FRE 302 Francophone Culture Abroad (Advanced)  
• FRE 311 - Introduction to Literature in French (1) OR FRE 312 - Introduction to French and Francophone Film (1)  
• FRE 411 - Capstone: Seminar (1) OR FRE 412 - Independent Capstone Research Project (1)   
• Four additional electives in French above the 205 level, with the following possible exceptions: The four electives may include a maximum of two upper-level courses (200 or above) taken from other programs/departments, approved beforehand by the French program as relevant to the major.  Up to two 200- or 300-level courses offered by the French program but taught in English may count as electives if approved beforehand by the French program.  In any combination, no more than two of these four electives may be courses taught in a language other than French.

Teaching Certification:

Students who are interested in pursuing K-12 certification to teach French should seek admission to the Teacher Education Program. See the Education  department section for application and certification information.

Study Abroad:

French majors are strongly encouraged to study abroad, and up to four course credits taken on approved programs may be substituted for required major courses.

Note:

Lectures and discussions in 300- and 400-level courses are in French unless otherwise specified.
