John Gruber-Miller (chair)

This interdisciplinary major is based on the study of language, literature, and civilization and allows for a creative and flexible program that will touch all aspects of the ancient world–its art, history, religion, philosophy, literature, society, and culture.

Requirements


A minimum of nine course credits, which include:

Minimum of 4 courses designated as “language” courses (one of which must be either GRE or LAT 205), selected from:

GRE 327  The Greek Hero LAT 312  The Age of Cicero
GRE 334  Ancient Greek Politics, Society, and Culture LAT 313  The Age of Augustus
GRE 291  Intermediate Tutorial LAT 291  Intermediate Tutorial
GRE 391  Advanced Tutorial LAT 391  Advanced Tutorial

 

Two additional Course Credits selected from:


  • Greek (GRE) or Latin (LAT) language courses
  • Courses in Greek or Roman literature, history, or culture listed above

One Course Credit in a Capstone Seminar:


Teaching Certification:


Students who are interested in pursuing K-12 certification to teach Latin should seek admission to the Teacher Education Program. See the Education department section for application and certification information.

With the permission of the major advisor, relevant courses from other departments may be counted toward the major.
