Requirements
9 course credits in total. Exemptions from a language course due to placement test results do not count as course credits for the major; however, students who place into GER 301 or above may substitute 1 course from the “cultural history” section for a course in the “language” section (e.g. GER 120 as a substituion for GER 303). Minimum of four courses designated as “language” courses, selected from:

Minimum of two courses in related fields; may be selected from any of the following categories:
a. HIS 101 , HIS 102 , HIS 104 , HIS 210 , HIS 220 , HIS 304 , HIS 315-HIS 340, PHI 303 , PHI 306 , POL 244 , or others approved by the department b. Courses from group 2 (above) that aren’t already being counted for group 2 c. Other courses or experiences (e.g. GER 290 /GER 390 independent study or GER 280 /GER 380 internship) as approved by GER program faculty d. INT 485 Capstone
Students must also complete a GER Reflective Capstone Experience: in consultation with GER faculty, this experience shall include the creation of two personal essays (one in German; one in English), typically to include: 1) a summary of the student’s coursework in GER as a whole; 2) a statement and elaboration of at least 3 specific personal gains as a result of GER study; and 3) an articulation of the student’s plans to integrate these into a chosen or aspirational profession. Note: 3c (above) would also fulfill this requirement. Teaching Certification:
