ART 334 - Installation Art (1)

In this course, students will investigate the possibilities of a very contemporary, yet historically rooted, mode of making visual art-installation. We will investigate installation art vs. the installation of art, the role of the viewer in art, the conversation between art and its site, the relationship of art to life, and the democratization of art. How can an artist truly activate a space? What visual choices can we make to create site-specific works? How does the space and site itself alter the experience of the viewer and, therefore, the viewer’s understanding of his/her life and the world? Students will create large scale, site-based works of art using a variety of media and processes. Prerequisite: Any 200-level studio art course This course is pre-approved for transcript notation in the Ingenuity in Action category, Creative Expression.
