ANT 325 - Anthropology of Doing Good: Human Rights, Development, and Humanitarianism (1)

This course will offer a critical look at what is thought of as “doing good” (particularly from an international perspective). Over the course of the block we will examine both the underlying assumptions of so-called do-gooder work and the practical problems of creating change. We will look at the work often characterized as doing good:  development, humanitarianism, NGO work, state-building, democratic reforms, UN mandates, peacekeeping, also charity and religious work. Prerequisite: ANT 101  and one course in ANT or SOC at the 200 level or above.
