ART 218 - Topics: Digital Processes and Sculpture (1)

ART 218 will explore the intersection of digital design and physical fabrication through the creation of interlocking sculptures. Students will learn how to use digital software such as Adobe Illustrator, as well as technical drafting programs, to conceptualize and model structures that utilize different joinery methods to create three-dimensional forms. These designs will be fabricated on the laser cutter within the digital art lab using materials such as MDF and cardboard. Emphasis will be placed on both the aesthetic and functional aspects of each design, ensuring that the final sculptures are visually striking and structurally sound. Students will produce projects for a range of applications- fine art, functional design, and creative installations. The course consists of lectures, technical demonstrations. critiques, and studio fabrication within the class and lab hours. Prerequisites: ART 103 , ART 104 , ART 115 , or ART 200 . This course has an additional materials fee listed in self-service. No alternate grade option. [SA]
