CPH 115 - Fundamentals of Community and Public Health (1)

This course introduces the interdisciplinary field and subfields of public health, such as epidemiology, community health organizations, public policy, and program planning. Students will explore the social, political, and environmental determinants of health, address institutions that shape health, and investigate how public health impacts the health of communities and larger populations. Topics such as health promotion, mental health, environmental health, maternal and child health, and control of chronic and infectious disease will be addressed. With a focus on health disparities and community health broadly, issues of difference, inequality, and discrimination will be integrated into class discussion, assignments, and hands-on activities.
