CSC 200 - Great Expectations: What we Can Learn from Past Predictions (SYS) (1)

Baseball player Yogi Berra famously said “It’s tough to make predictions, especially about the future” and “The future ain’t what it used to be.” In this course, we will read what experts of the past expected the future would bring, compare their predictions to what we know has transpired since, and draw some lessons about how to weigh the predictions that today’s experts are making. We will give special attention to trends that will shape opportunities for today’s young adults. Expect to be impressed by how far-seeing some experts have been (the World Wide Web in 1945?) and surprised by how wrong others have been (a world market for just five computers?)! Open to sophomores.
