HIS 331 - Topics: The First World War (1)This course will examine the military history of the First World War, including not only the well-known development of trench warfare on the Western Front, but also the other operational theaters of the war, including the Eastern Front, the Middle Eastern Front, and naval combat on the high seas. Students will examine some of the traditional aspects of military history, such as tactics, weapons, and battles, but also examine the impact of broader themes in military history, such as social, ideological, gender, and ethnic aspects. Particular focus will be put on the lead up to World War I and the larger implications of its aftermath. Prerequisite: sophomore standing. Recommended prerequisite: HIS 104 (Humanities)
