RES 123 - Introduction to Race, Ethnicity, and Social Justice (1)

This course explores the ways in which social scientists approach issues of race and ethnicity.  It considers how racial group membership is related to and affected by features of American society including social inequality and altered by processes of social change through such actions as social movements and public policy implementation. Key topics covered include immigration policy, civil rights activism, identity formation, and racial stratification. While course readings are drawn from a wide range of disciplines, each is analyzed focusing on the complex interactions  between social structure, social inequality, culture, and social history. Not open to seniors without permission of instructor.
