MUS 220 - Jazz: The Voice for Racial Justice (1)Jazz, America’s only significant original art form, began as a regional expression of the black and creole people of New Orleans and has since become a worldwide musical art form. This course is a culturally and historically oriented study of the origins and history of jazz, including its significance for peoples of color and its interconnections with the world. No music background expected. Prerequisite: writing-designated course (W). Offered every third year. (Humanities) (Intercultural Literacy Intensive)
