The characters of Hercules, Zeus, Athena, and Medusa all pervade modern art and literature although their stories began long ago in ancient Greece. This course not only functions as a review of Greek mythical narratives in ancient art, but also an examination of the modern resonances and cultural implications of depictions of these infamous heroes, heroines, and villains in early modern visual culture and in contemporary films.
