ENG 323 - Shakespeare, Gender, Power (1)

Immersion into the plays of William Shakespeare with a focus on the performance of gender and power, and their relationship to identity- and political construction and disruption. Students will analyze comedies, tragedies, and hybrid-genre plays, attending to historical articulations of gender and power, and relating them to contemporary experiences. Assignments include scene studies and engaged critical and theoretical inquiry through presentations, projects, and papers. The class can function as a Research Seminar fulfilling the capstone requirement for the Literature and Society, and the Multimedia and Digital Writing concentrations of the English major. Prerequisite: writing designated course (W), or ENG 201 ,  ENG 215 , or ENG 225  Alternate years.
